Pueblo Deputies apprehend 2 escaped inmates from Florence Correctional Complex

Pueblo County Sheriff’s Deputies located and apprehended two federal prison escapees Monday after they were reported missing late Sunday.

The deputies located the inmates on railroad property just west of Pueblo West, said the Sheriff’s Department. They were notified at about 11:25 p.m. that two men matching the inmates’ descriptions were seen by a Union Pacific Railroad employee walking eastbound on the railroad tracks near the area of Carslile Road and Hobson Road in western Pueblo County.

Deputies responded to the area assisted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife Officers. They drove along the railroad tracks and spotted Gomez and Montano sitting next to the tracks. Deputies took them into custody without incident at approximately 12:10 p.m.

Union Pacific officials assisted in transporting the prisoners from railroad property to Swallows Road where they were assessed by medical personnel before being transported to Pueblo County Jail, said the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office press release. Both men have been released to Federal Bureau of Prison officials.
