Centennial Elementary welcomes back students for first day of school

Harrison School District Two welcomed back students Thursday for the start of the school year.

At Centennial Elementary School, students were surprised to see all the new renovations done over the summer.

After a $6.5 million bond was approved by Colorado Springs voters, the school received all new desks and chairs for students and staff along with new carpet, freshly painted walls, new heating and cooling, a media center for students and more.

Assistant Principal Kelly Lane says when he saw all the changes it felt like walking into a brand-new school, “We just have an amazing transformation that will help our teachers improve their instruction, will help our students enhance their learning experience here at Centennial.”

Lauren King is a kindergarten teacher at Centennial, and she says her students were very excited for their first day. “When they came in this morning they were ready to go,” King says, “They wanted to play with everything, just get engaged in the classroom and feel welcome.”

Lane says all the construction happened in nine weeks and says the last time the school had renovations like this was in the ’90s.
