City of Colorado Springs closes Prospect Lake until further notice

The City of Colorado Springs closed Prospect Lake Friday due to an algae bloom.

The lake will be closed until further notice.

A precautionary water sample was taken Friday morning and it tested positive for mycrocystin toxin, which is produced by cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae.

The beach and surrounding area are roped off and have posted signs of the closure.

The following activities are prohibited:

Tubing Water skiing Swimming Bathing Paddleboarding Boating of any kind

Rentals will not be available at this time.

Fishing areas will remain open, though anglers are urged to clean fish well and remove guts.
