2 dogs dead after fire that destroyed Boone home

A fire near Boone destroyed a home and a vehicle, killed two dogs, and left a man injured early Thursday morning.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says the fire broke out around 3:40 a.m. near 60000 Highway 96. First responders arrived and found the home “engulfed in flames.”

Investigators say the homeowner was the only person inside the house at the time, and he was asleep when the fire started. The 54-year-old homeowner said he woke up and was able to get out of the home, but he suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

According to a news release, the homeowner was taken to a Denver-area hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office says two dogs died in the fire.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet, but the PCSO says it doesn’t appear to be suspicious at this time.
