Driver arrested for DUI after passenger opens door, falls out

After a woman fell out of a moving vehicle in southwest Colorado Springs Friday night, the driver of the car is now facing a criminal charge for driving under the influence.

It happened at about 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Brookside and 8th streets. The Colorado Springs Fire Department got a call that a woman had fallen out, and first responders went to investigate.

Police found that the driver, 46-year-old Chandra Lovett, was turning onto 8th Street from Brookside, and during the turn, the passenger opened her door and fell out of the vehicle.

CSPD said alcohol was involved, and Lovett was arrested and charged with DUI.

The passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
