Woodland Park’s only urgent care clinic is closing

Penrose Mountain Urgent Care in Woodland Park is shutting down on Wednesday. That means people living in the county will have no dependable same-day treatment options besides the emergency room.

We reached out to the company that owns Penrose Mountain Urgent Care, Centura Health, to see why they’re shutting the clinic down. They released a statement to KRDO:

” Penrose Mountain Urgent Care will close permanently on July 31. Primary Care, Colorado Sports & Spine and our cardiovascular care clinic will remain open and continue to provide world class , whole person care to Woodland Park and Teller County communities. Centura Health and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services are fully committed to meeting the care needs of every community we serve and residents in Teller County can experience the convenience and expertise of excellent primary care, cardiovascular care and sports medicine and spine care at one convenient location, where same-day appointments are possible when providers’ schedules permit. The closure of the urgent care clinic in Woodland Park is part of an overarching strategy to expertly and compassionately care for our patients and communities where they need it most. ”

We also contacted officials at UCHealth, the other main healthcare provider in the area, to see how they plan to react to the possible influx of ER patients. UCHealth says it has virtual visits, a feature to book same-day or next-day appointmen, and an online cost calculator to better assist patients.

The next-closest health care facility aside from UCHealth is the Peak Vista Health Center in Divide, which closes at 4 p.m. most days and is closed on weekends. Other than that, Woodland Park residents may have to drive all the way to the west side of Colorado Springs.
