Colorado Springs Police: At least 679 potential road rage incidents since January

In just a little under seven months, Colorado Springs police have received nearly 700 calls regarding road rage.

That’s according to statistics provided to KRDO, which say since January, there have been at least 679 calls. That number only includes reports that specifically mention “road rage,” so it’s likely the actual number is higher.

Road rage incidents often begin as something as small as cutting someone off, especially when you include Colorado’s growing congestion with traffic and construction.

Last week in Colorado Springs, police took to social media to ask for help find a man who pointed a gun at suspected street racers.

Earlier this month, two drivers engaged in a fight in Westminster and one man was shot.

Also earlier in the month, Loveland police said a man possibly driving drunk in a stolen car shot at another driver after making a lane change. No one was injured in that incident.

Colorado Springs police aren’t able to keep track of every road rage incident because it can often be hard for them to get there before any party drives off. More calls involving potential road rage incidents could also be listed in their call logs under aggressive driving, careless driving, or reckless driving, making it difficult to determine exactly how many incidents there may be.

Colorado State Patrol tracks road rage complaints through its *CSP program. Last year, the agency reported the number of complaints was up slightly from previous years.

Since January, CSP says there have been 38,788 calls for both drunk drivers and road rage.
