Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – More PM Storms – 7-27-19
Overview: The plume of moisture associated with the summer monsoon is overhead today and should support scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. We’re tracking a weak cold front and some drier air aloft that should decrease storms on Sunday; the middle of next week looks pretty hot.
Today: Partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing over and near the mountains this afternoon, then heading east through this evening. Storms shouldn’t be severe today, by stronger cells could produce localized heavy rainfall, small hail, gusty wind and frequent lightning. Expect high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains, mainly 70s over the mountains.
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will drift east this evening then gradually come to an end with a partly cloudy sky expected by morning. We expect low temperatures to fall into the 50s and 60s for most areas, although where the air is drier over the high mountain valleys and higher mountain communities the temperature may slip into the 40s .
Extended: A weak cold front will move over eastern Colorado on Sunday kicking up the breeze and combined with some drier air aloft should mean a reduction in the coverage of thunderstorms for many areas, although isolated storms are still possible over mainly southern parts of our coverage area. Thunderstorms should increase in coverage over many areas on Monday with better chances for heavy rain. Tuesday and Wednesday look pretty hot with only isolated thunderstorms expected, then cooler with an increase in storms again on Thursday.
