Police: Man tried to set people, rescuers on fire at Colorado Springs park

Colorado Springs police arrested a man and a woman Wednesday after the man reportedly tried to set people on fire and the woman assaulted two people during the incident.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department was called to Monument Valley Park just before 5 p.m. for reports of a fire being started.

Upon arrival, CSFD reported that 38-year-old Viein Tazsac was trying to set bystanders on fire as well as CSFD personnel. Tazsac was using an accelerant in his attempt to set people on fire.

Tazsac was tackled and restrained by a bystander as well as a firefighter. Katrina Apodaca, 24, who was an acquaintance of Tazsac, began to physically assault the Good Samaritan and the firefighter.

Tazsac was arrested for menacing and arson. Apodaca was arrested for assaulting the Good Samaritan and firefighter.
