A woman was airlifted from Rocky Mountain National Park after falling down steep terrain

A nineteen-year-old female from Missouri is recovering from injuries obtained after sliding 80 feet down steep terrain in Rocky Mountain National Park, park officials reported Wednesday.

Park rangers were notified Tuesday afternoon that the unnamed woman had slid down a steep snow-covered pitch in the upper Andrews Creek area. She sustained numerous injuries from landing on rocks and was suffering from hypothermia when park Search and Rescue reached her at approximately 3:30 p.m. The rescue team provided “advanced medical care,” according to park officials.

The rescue operation requested air support from a Colorado National Guard helicopter from Buckley Air Force Base to extract her via a hoist operation. The young woman was lifted at approximately 8 p.m. and flown to Upper Beaver meadows where she was transported to the emergency room at Estes Park Health.
