Canyonlands Fire in Fremont County now 75% contained

As of Tuesday morning, the Canyonlands Fire is 75% contained and remains at approximately 50 acres.

The fire is entirely on Bureau of Land Management lands and no structures are currently threatened. The fire is burning about nine miles northwest of Canon City. It was started by lightning on July 9.

On Monday firefighters established fire control lines around the northern perimeter of the fire. A Multi-Mission Aircraft also flew over the fire and pinpointed eight hotspots near the southeastern corner.

Crews are expected to mop up hotspots and work to further secure the perimeter of the fire.

The fire management team is striving for 100% containment before hotter and drier weather which is predicted later this week.
