After 33 years, the search continues for Christopher Abeyta

Monday morning, a march was held in Colorado Springs for Christopher Abeyta, who was just seven months old when he was kidnapped from his crib in the middle of the night.

Now 33 years later, the search for Abeyta continues.

From the Colorado Springs Police Department to the District Attorney’s Office and then to the Courthouse, friends and family of Abeyta marched.

Denise Alves, Christopher’s sister said, “It’s been 33 years, and we’ve never stopped searching for him.”

Alves says she and her family have continued to search for Christopher since his disappearance 33 years ago.

“We’ve never lost hope,” said Alves. “He was an infant, he was a baby. We’ve lived with that hope that he’s still out there and alive.”

In what has become an annual tradition on the anniversary of his disappearance: friends and family march for Christopher in hopes of raising awareness.

“He was kidnapped from this community and we know someone from this community knows where he is and what happened,” said Alvez.

Jackquelin Medina remembers watching the case unfold 33 years ago. She didn’t know the family then but has since grown close to them in hopes of finding Christopher.

Medina said, “We just want justice for Christopher and the person of interest to be questioned.”

Last year, three people within a 6-month span came forward claiming to be Abeyta. However, none were true.

Alvez said, “We’ve always kept hope alive and we thought there was a chance. And that’s what keeps us motivated even now, is that there have been cases even after decades that have been solved and people have come forward.”

To this day, Christopher Abeyta’s case remains unsolved, but until he is found, they will continue to march and asks questions about his disappearance.
