Teens walk away from stolen car rollover accident in Baca County

At approximately 5 a.m. Sunday a serious rollover accident happened on Baca County Road near 13th Ave in Baca County, reports Colorado State Patrol.

A sixteen-year-old was driving a stolen red 2006 Pontiac G6, with another sixteen-year-old in the passenger seat, north bound at high speed on Baca County Road.

As the car crossed a set of railroad tracks, the vehicle veered off the road and into a ditch. The driver overcorrected which launched the car into a counter clockwise spin. The car then turned over two and a half times, coming to a stop on its roof, upside-down.

Miraculously, both teenage drivers walked away from the scene — despite not wearing seat belts — and were later transported to Southeast Colorado Hospital by family members. The driver was flown to Swedish Medical Center for serious, but non life-threatening, injuries.

Officers suspect alcohol and drugs are factors in the crash.
