Petition to recall Governor Polis approved by Secretary of State

After waiting the requisite six months, the group Dismiss Polis filed a petition request on Monday to remove Colorado Governor Jared Polis which was approved that same day by the Secretary of State’s office.

Now, they have 60 days to gather more than 631,000 signatures.

The group’s spokesperson, Karen Kataline, says they are hoping to get 900,000 signatures. Kataline says it will be an uphill battle but one they are ready for.

“It’s a Herculean job but sometimes Herculean jobs are worth doing,” she says.

The group raised $20,000 to get the necessary number of petitions and are setting up signing locations all over Colorado, including 15 in El Paso County.

This all originated from when Polis signed the Red Flag bill, National Popular Vote bill, and the Oil and Gas Bill. All three bills have received criticism from conservatives.

In a statement released by a spokesperson with the Governor’s office, they say,

“The Governor is focused on governing for all of Colorado and ensuring that every Coloradan – no matter their zip code or political affiliation – has the opportunity to succeed. During his first six months in office, the Governor has created bipartisan solutions to lower the cost of health care, ensure every kid can go to free full-day kindergarten this fall, and cut taxes for small businesses. The Governor will continue to reach across the aisle and hopes that, by tackling key issues for Coloradans, we will continue to bring people together and focus on what unites us.”
