Southern Colorado celebrates the 4th of July

Looking for something to do this Independence Day? Cities and towns all across southern Colorado are gearing up for their 4th of July celebrations.

Here’s what you can expect:

ALAMOSA — July 4

The town’s Independence Day Celebration kicks off with the Kiwanis pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a parade on Main Street. Fireworks start at sundown.

BUENA VISTA — July 4

There will be several Independence Day events today, beginning with a pancake breakfast, followed by a 5k run. Expect a parade, beer garden, cookout, and more.

CAÑON CITY — No fireworks this year

Cañon City canceled its fireworks show this year due to monetary issues. The city recommends a fireworks display in Florence.

CASTLE ROCK — July 4

The city’s fireworks display will begin around 9 p.m. at the Santa Fe Quarry Butte above Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course. Fireworks will be visible across town. However, visibility might be limited in Crystal Valley Ranch, Plum Creek, Founders, Castlewood Ranch, and Sapphire Pointe.

COLORADO SPRINGS — July 4

There will be a fireworks show at the Memorial Park Independence Day celebration around 9 p.m. There will also be a special performance by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic at 7:30 p.m. The U.S. Air Force Academy’s Wild Blue Country is also expected to perform.

CRIPPLE CREEK — July 4

The town calls this one of the best Independence Day celebrations in the state. There will be live entertainment in the Brass Ass parking lot beginning at noon. Expect more live music from 6 to 10 p.m., plus food vendors and a beer garden. Fireworks are scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m.

FAIRPLAY — July 4

The Town of Fairplay will go all out for their Independence Day celebrations with a free concert, a parade, a burro buster 5K race, a chalk art contest, a community flea market, kids activities and more.

FLORENCE — July 4

Florence’s Fourth of July celebration features live music, food and a beer garden, the Wet ‘n Dry Parade. The fireworks show starts at 8 p.m. at Pioneer Park.

LARKSPUR — July 4

Join folks in Larkspur for a parade at Perry Park at 11 a.m.

LA JUNTA — July 4

La Junta goes old school with the Old-Fashioned Fourth at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site. Admission is $5.

LEADVILLE — July 4

It’s a small-town Independence Day celebration in Leadville. There will be a Firecracker 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a parade at 10 a.m. along Harrison Avenue. Fireworks begin at sundown.

MONUMENT — July 4

The Tri-Lakes Fourth of July event takes place with a fireworks show at dusk.

PUEBLO — July 4

The Rollin’ on the Riverwalk celebration will be held at AMR Confluence Plaza. Gates open at 5 p.m.

TRINIDAD — July 4

Head out to Central Park today, for Trinidad’s Fourth of July. It all begins at 2 p.m. Enjoy a baseball game, fireworks and other fun for everyone.

WALSENBURG — July 4

Enjoy a fireworks show over Martin Lake at Lathrop State Park. Residents at the nearby Veteran’s Living Community Center will be able to see the show from the windows of the dining room and some bedrooms.

WESTCLIFFE — July 4

Westcliffe kicks off its Fourth of July fun with a breakfast followed by a parade, car show, and an ice cream social. The fireworks start at sundown at Lake DeWeese.

WOODLAND PARK — July 4

It’s an Old Fashioned Fourth of July at Memorial Park in Woodland Park. Enjoy music, a beer garden, activities for the kids, arts and crafts, and much more. The fun in the park goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fireworks will be held at dark.
