Police: Man carjacks vehicle in Colorado Springs parking garage after claiming the vehicle is his

A 21-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning after forcibly pulling a woman out of her vehicle and then driving away in the vehicle almost hitting a pedestrian.

Colorado Springs police were called to a city parking garage for reports of a carjacking just before 2 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Ignacio Medina was convinced the victim was getting into his vehicle despite the woman showing him her car keys and pointing to the out-of-state plates.

Medina was still sure it was his car, so he opened the car door and forcibly pulled the woman out of the vehicle as she was about to drive away.

He then punched the victim and then drove off. Medina struck a parked car with the stolen vehicle and almost hit a pedestrian.

Medina exited the vehicle soon after he drove away and attempted to run away but was apprehended by police officers.

Medina’s vehicle was the same make, model and color but was located on a different floor.

The victim suffered a minor injury.

Medina appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Medina was charged with a number of crimes including robbery.
