Pikes Peak Hill Climb tech inspection
It’s the 97th edition of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, “This is one opportunity for a local to still compete against an international field. It’s really an amazing thing that people from Europe and Asian countries really follow this race. It has a lot of prestige,” says Steve Goeglein.
Goeglein has been doing this race for almost thirty years. This is what his car looks like now and this is what his car looked like in 1982, his second year on the climb. Some racers like Kash Singh made quite the trek, “I’ve got a unique program. I drive my race car from whatever city I live in. I drive out to the race, I race in it and drive back. Three days ago we started out in Seattle, and we drove all the way cross-country and got here,” says Singh.
Then there’re guys like Robb Holland, a former record holder for the fastest time in the two wheel drive car, He’s looking to reclaim the record, but he’s also taken time to appreciate how cool it is to be part of this international event, “You look at this race and it’s such a big race worldwide. It’s international. The guys who race over in Europe know about the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb, they knew about my record at Pike’s Peak. So to be here at the 97th running, you’ve got three more to go, it’s hugely special,” says. Holland.
You can listen to the race on KRDO News Radio starting this Sunday at 7 AM.
