Colorado Springs man concerned about “noose” chew toy

“He was wheezing a little bit,” said Jared Fontaine, whose cat’s neck was wrapped around a dog chew toy. “I was definitely scared.”

Fontaine heard his cat Sushi choking while he was watching television.

“I heard this loud crashing noise and my cat comes running out from my bedroom,” he said. “I could see the rope trailing off its neck.”

Fontaine bought the toy from a nearby Dollar Tree store for his service dog Harley.

As he examined the toy closely after saving his cat, Fontaine said he noticed the toy could tighten easily like a noose.

“If I wasn’t home, I could’ve come home to a dead cat,” the owner said.

Fontaine bought Sushi to provide some company for his service dog.

“I keep thinking if it was two dogs and they’re both pulling on it and grab the right end… it could tighten all the way down,” he said.

When the owner messaged Dollar Tree on Facebook, he says it took them a while to apologize and file a claim. He is now waiting for the toy-manufacturing company to contact him.

“The main thing I want them to do is to be aware of this toy and take it off the market,” Fontaine said.
