Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Still Cool – 6/23/19

Overview: A chilly upper level system will keep the area quite cool today and spotty showers and thunderstorms are still expected. Although stronger cells could produce brief heavy rain, small hail, gusty wind and frequent lightning it doesn’t appear that severe weather is very likely.

Today: Scattered showers are again possible today, especially over northern parts of our coverage area, but we don’t expect showers and thunderstorms to be as widespread as they were late Saturday. The air will remain quite cool for early summer with high temperatures only reaching the 60s and 70s for the plains, 50s for the mountains, and we’ll have a cool breeze at times.

Tonight: Areas of rain and thunder should wind down this evening with most areas becoming partly cloudy overnight. The air will be cool again with temperatures in the 30s over the mountains and 40s for the plains by morning. A Freeze Warning is actually in effect for the San Luis Valley for late tonight through early Monday morning!

Extended: The work week will bring much warmer and drier air to the area with just slight chances for brief, weak showers and thunderstorms over and near the mountains occasionally. High temperatures will eventually warm into the 80s and 90s for the plains with 70s returning to the mountains. For many it should finally feel as if summer has officially arrived this week!
