Families struggle without water at Woodland Park mobile home community
There’s growing frustration for people living in a mobile home complex in Woodland Park. Their water is getting shut off every night, leaving them without the chance to shower or even use the restroom after 10 p.m.
Water is a basic necessity, but residents who live at the Woodland Park Village Mobile Home Park don’t always have it.
“You get up to go to the restroom at night and there’s no water, you come home from work late and you want to shower,” said Angela Pool, who lives in the community.
When they do have water, they worry it’s not safe to drink.
The Teller County Public Health Department posted signs on people’s doors stating people have to boil their water before they drink it.
“[I’m] having to boil water and wait for it to cool down if I don’t the money for bottled water, which I just finished the last of my food stamps buying,” said Tracy Ferrell, who also lives in the park.
The owner of the mobile home park is out of the state, but he spoke to us over the phone.
He says they’ve been shutting off the water between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in an effort to save water. He believes there are leaks, and he’s asking people to take care of them.
But one woman, who didn’t want to be identified, says she doesn’t have any leaks and just wants her water turned back on.
“I have a lot of health issues, that living without water is not something I’m comfortable with,” she said.
The owner says it’ll most likely be a couple more days before they find the source of the leaks and the water gets turned back on for good.
But Pool says until then, she’s not sure how to handle the situation, especially with grandchildren.
“I don’t want to bathe them in bacteria water, what do you do? Bathe, not bathe? Do you boil the bath water? What do you do,” Pool said.
With frustrations running high, many families will have to go on living with a boil order during the day, and without any water at night.
The owner says he is hoping to hire a leak detection company to get the water turned on sometime next week.
