Strong to severe storms likely today – 6/18/19

TODAY: Overcast to partly sunny skies are in for the first part of the morning. By the late morning (10 a.m.) through noon, storms pop up northwest of Teller County and drop to the southeast and east. They should strengthen through 2 p.m. today and will begin to cross I-25. Storms move over the eastern plains following that and will really pick up some steam. Heavy rain, large hail and high winds are all possible. I don’t think we can even rule out a brief tornado closer to the Kansas border. The warmest part of the day will be through lunch as highs top off in the 70s and 60s. Temperatures in the 80s will be felt in places far east.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy. Storms will end by 10 p.m. and we drop temps to the 40s and 50s.

EXTENDED: Less rain and storms are expected tomorrow and Thursday looks mainly dry. This means highs will be a lot warmer through the midweek. Storms develop again over the weekend, with Saturday looking like our stormiest day.
