Fire Breaks Out at Evraz in Pueblo
Update: The large smoke plume that rose over Pueblo Wednesday evening came from a railroad tie fire on the Evraz steel property.
The thick, black smoke was first spotted just before 6:00pm Wednesday, prompting a number of calls to emergency services, and to this station.
A spokesperson with the Pueblo Fire Department tells KRDO that there is no danger to the public at large, and crews are on scene, battling the flames.
One challenge those crews are facing, according to our source, is that there is no hydrant system on the lot where the rail ties are stored, prompting city and county crews to bring in brush tanker trucks to aid in the fight.
