1 injured, 2 mules dead after crash in east El Paso County

The Colorado State Patrol says two mules drawing a buggy are dead and the buggy driver had to be taken to a hospital via helicopter after a crash Friday near Peyton.

CSP says the call came in at about 12:40 p.m. for a crash near Peyton Highway and Sweet Road. (MAP) Investigators say an 18-year-old man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck when he rear-ended the carriage going north on Peyton Highway.

The buggy operator was described as a 52-year-old woman; CSP said her injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening. No information has been given about the condition of the 18-year-old.

Both of the horses drawing the buggy died at the scene, CSP said.

Investigators say speed and inattentive driving are being considered factors in the crash. No criminal charges have been announced.
