Water main break leads to closures on Galley Road in Colorado Springs

Eastbound Galley Rd. was closed Thursday due to a water main break.

Colorado Springs Utilities tweeted out a warning, saying that eastbound traffic on Galley between Circle and Tia Juana will be closed. CSU later said the road would be closed until Friday.

CSU arrived on the scene between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. to shut off the water. Chris Goins lives in the neighborhood and told KRDO what he saw, “water was running all up here, all on the other side, all the way down the highway. Just about to the bottom down there where the valley is.”

Goins, who lives just down the block from where this happened, said he was without water for about two to three hours and the road closure affected his wife getting to work.

The road reopened hours later, with one lane opening in each direction.

Crews on scene say they believe the hydrant lateral broke which isn’t a very common break.
