Woman commits suicide at El Paso County Jail
A female inmate at the El Paso County Jail died in what appears to be a suicide.
Deputies responded to a medical emergency at the El Paso County Jail on June 4 and found a woman attempting suicide by hanging.
The woman was not breathing and had no pulse, deputies initiated CPR and used the automated defibrillator.
Lifesaving efforts continued and the woman eventually had a pulse as she was transported to the hospital, but she subsequently passed away on June 9.
The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, this is the first person to die by suicide at the El Paso County Jail since July 2009.
