Mountain lion sickened by bratwurst released into the wild

Wildlife officials have released a mountain lion that was seized from a southern Colorado home after falling ill when the residents fed it bratwurst.

The feline was released into the wild Saturday after spending several months at a rehabilitation center in Wetmore.

The Walsenburg residents posted photos on social media in November showing the then-kitten in a cage and describing how they found it in a snowbank after a snowplow passed by. They also said they were allowing it to “thaw out.”

The mountain lion was only a few months old and was kept too long to be returned to the area to be reunited with its mother.

Two orphaned bear cubs from the same rehab center also were released over the weekend.
