Alabama bill would require chemical castration for some sex offenders
Alabama lawmakers passed a bill that would require some sex offenders to be chemically castrated before leaving prison.
HB379 hasn’t been signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, but it was delivered to her office on Friday.
If it’s signed into law, criminals convicted of sex crimes against children aged 13 and under would be required to be chemically castrated before their release from prison. The law affects criminals over the age of 21.
Chemical castration reduces libido and sexual activity through pills or injections. It is not the same thing as sterilization.
