Remains found during missing person search in Las Animas County
The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office says investigators found human remains while searching an area in relation to a missing person case that has been open for three years.
The search happened Saturday in a northwest portion of the county; the sheriff’s office didn’t specify where the search took place. Deputies with the sheriff’s office were helped by the Colorado Forensic Canine unit and multiple other agencies during the search, according to a news release.
At some point during the search, human remains were located and recovered. The remains haven’t been identified yet, and no other information about the remains will be released until next of kin is notified, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office didn’t say which missing person case led to the search. No other details were given about the tip to search that area.
