Air Force Academy graduates fill Cadet Chapel to say ‘I do’ following graduation

Although the graduation at the Air Force Academy is over, the future still looks bright for many newly named second lieutenants as hundreds of them plan to tie the knot at the Cadet Chapel.

It’s a tradition many graduates try to keep alive. They choose to use dedication they learned at the academy and channel it into their personal relationships with a pledge in marriage.

Surrounded by family and friends, one couple will be saying “I do” for the second time in just three days.

The first “I do” came at graduation after the oath of office, and again Saturday at their wedding.

Friday is their rehearsal, with the big day taking place on Saturday.

They’re just two of many couples who threw their caps at graduation and plan to get married a few days later.

“Getting married in a couple days, going to go be a pilot,” said one new officer following the graduation parade.

Cadets at the Air Force Academy aren’t allowed to marry while attending the school. It’s most likely why wedding bells call their names to the altar every spring.

With love in their air, the chapel is already reserved for many more weddings this spring and summer.

It may sound strange but another option for a venue is the superintendent’s living room, which serves as another Air Force Academy tradition.
