Thunderbirds take off for practice over Colorado Springs after short delay

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were set to take off for a few practice runs over Colorado Springs at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday; but it was a potential thunderstorm that swept in from Cheyenne Mountain around that time, delaying the stunt pilots.

They finally took off around 11 a.m. from Peterson Air Force Base making loops around Falcon Stadium. It wasn’t until noon that all six pilots were able to put on the show, full of stunts and practice their full performance.

It’s that delay that had many people leaving, but right then and there the Thunderbirds came roaring through the sky captivating viewers of all ages.

The Thunderbirds are practicing ahead of the Air Force Academy Graduation Ceremony this Thursday.

Unfortunately several people left before the show, but the loud rumbles could be heard miles away echoing through Colorado Springs.

Many people we spoke with said the display was worth waiting for, although it’s just a small piece of the full routine the F-16 squadron has planned for graduation day.

The Thunderbirds’ performance on Thursday is tentatively set to start at 2:30 p.m., though there could be weather delays Thursday afternoon as well.
