Standoff near Palmer Lake ends with suspect in custody

A wanted suspect is in custody following an hours long stand of with sheriff’s deputies and police.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with Monument Police responded to a report at the Willow Creek Townhomes of a suspect who barricaded himself inside one of the townhomes.

Jackie Kirby a spokesperson with EPCSO says its SWAT team was called out to talk with the suspect. She says the suspect had a felony out for their arrest involving domestic violence.

The suspect also had hostages inside the home but released them shortly before surrendering to authorities.

Nearby residents had to be evacuated because of the potential danger. The standoff lasted about five hours before it safely ended.

At this time we are waiting for the suspects name and what other charges they could be facing.
