Snowy Garden of the Gods attracts crowds

While the heavy snow caused plenty of damage around Colorado Springs, there was a silver lining: locals and tourists alike flocked to the Garden of the Gods to take in snow-covered peaks.

Sightseers said, “Garden of the Gods is a must see by itself, then you add the snow and it’s just beautiful.”

“We drove about 700 miles [from Texas], through rain, snow, fog, and sleet. Every bit of it was worth it,” said another visitor.

The sharp contrast of colors provided a unique photo opportunity not often seen this late in the spring.

Colorado Springs averages about 1″ of snow during the month of May. Monday’s storm dropped up to a foot of snow in some areas of north Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods received about 3-5 inches of snow and slush.

If you missed the sight at Garden of the Gods today, you might have to wait till next winter, as much of the snow had already melted as of the afternoon.
