Remote Colorado county needs volunteers for flood preparations
Hinsdale County labels itself the “most remote area in the United States’ lower 48” but the county seat of Lake City needs volunteers who can help fill sandbags in preparation of flooding.
The county is facing possible floods due to increased snowpack and precipitation in nearby mountains. The Lake Fork of the Gunnison River also runs right through Lake City. ( MAP )
Only a few hundred people live in Lake City, and the county isn’t kidding about its distance from other population centers. But if you’re at least 18 years old and capable of lifting 50 pounds to fill sandbags, the county needs your help.
You can register to participate by going to coloradoresponds.communityos.org. A representative will then contact you with a schedule of opportunities to help out, according to the county.
