Study: Ridesharing vehicles have 35,000 times more bacteria than toilet seats

A new study conducted by Netquote found that when it comes to bacteria, Uber and Lyft are one of the dirtiest ways to get around.

According to The Drive, rideshares come in last when compared to rental cars and taxis.

The study swabbed the interiors of rideshares, taxis and rental cars and found that bacterial concentrations were the strongest on window switches, steering wheels, shifters and seatbelts.

Rideshares were ranked as most likely to make you sick. Due to the volume of bacteria in rideshares, a passenger is twice as more likely to get sick in a rideshare compared to a rental car, and around 230 times as likely in a taxi.

A heavily regulated taxi industry could be the reason behind the bacteria difference, in the ridesharing industry the vehicles’ cleanliness is the responsibility of the owners.
