Fallen officers remembered at Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers Memorial

For the 26th year in a row, officers who died in the line of duty around the Pikes Peak Region were honored today.

Every officer’s name was read aloud for the public and other law enforcement to remember their service.

The most recent name added was El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick, who died in February of 2018.

Sheriff Bill Elder had just returned from Washington D.C., where Flick’s name was added to a memorial this year.

“It’s just a tough week,” Elder said through tears. “It’s actually kind of healing. It gives us an opportunity to share with the families of the fallen.”

For the second year in a row, Deputy Flick’s wife, Rachael, attended the service. The first was just months after Flick died in a shootout.

She said this year was easier.

“It doesn’t feel like it did last year when it was fresh and so sharp and so new. It’s a blessing,” Flick explained.

The hope from the hundreds of people in the crowd was that no more names get added to the already long list of officers who died in the line of duty.
