Time running out for ambitious Colorado Democrats’ agenda

Colorado’s minority Republican lawmakers are using everything at their disposal to slow down the last-week consideration of Democratic bills at the Legislature.

There are signs Tuesday the tactics are working.

The Democratic majority leader, Steve Fenberg, effectively killed a bill to grant local governments a say in rent control.

He postponed it to Thursday, too late to be considered before the session ends at midnight Friday.

It was among the first of several items expected to die.

Majority Democrats acknowledge there’s too much to do and too little time.

Bills on their must-do list include health care, climate change and full-day kindergarten.
