Man tries to escape police, jumps from Colorado Springs apartment

Officers were called to an apartment near the Stratton Meadows area late Tuesday night in regards to the location of a wanted felon.

When officers arrived in the 800 block of Tenderfoot Hills Rd, they attempted to contact the suspect, 26-year-old Jaime Leonardo Cardona.

Cardona was wanted for escape and had multiple felony warrants.

While officers were speaking to the other occupants in the apartment, Cardona jumped from the second-floor balcony.

Once on the ground, Cardone attempted to run from officers but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Cardona has been charged with obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and animal abuse.

Police also arrested 43-year-old Elizabeth Hopkins who is charged with obstructing a peace officer for interference during the arrest of Cardona.
