Colorado Springs puppy in viral video gets adopted

The video has been shared by thousands of people online and shows a now-former Pet City employee at Chapel Hills mall using force to grab and push a puppy back into its enclosure.

A clip shows an employee shove the dog back inside a crate and then slam the door on the side of its torso.

But now the golden retriever puppy seen in the viral video is getting a new home.

The puppy, now known as Walter, waited for his new start Wednesday with the Jackson family.

“We’re excited, he’s really sweet and loving and instantly was bonding with the kids and everything,” said Eric Jackson.

But before even watching the viral video, Jackson said his family already had a place in their heart and home for Walter.

“We went and started looking at reviews online and everything and then that’s when we found out about the whole incident,” he said.

Though Jackson believes there may have been more to the employee’s actions.

“The worker prevented him from falling on the ground, like he really wanted to get outside and play, and we’re so happy to give him that opportunity,” Jackson said.

Jackson’s daughter says it’s all in Walter’s past now.

“I want to see him being all happy around our house,” she said.

And as for the owner and general manager of Pet City, he said they’re continuing to work on getting the public’s trust back.

“It’s disheartening. It was a rough first part of the week after seeing the video and realizing the staff was that rough with the puppies,” Dustin Hayworth said.

You may notice in the video that there was another Golden Retriever puppy in Walter’s kennel. She is doing just fine and is still available for purchase.
