Man turns himself in following horse abuse case in El Paso County

A 53-year-old man is out on bond following animal cruelty charges.

Brian Holloway turned himself in in Elbert County and as of Friday afternoon, he is out on bond.

Holloway is facing two counts of felony cruelty to animals and 10 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals after ten horses were located in various stages of emaciation (photos below). There were also two deceased horses inside of stalls in a large barn.

According to court documents, Holloway admitted to authorities that he owned the horses on his property.

Further investigation revealed that all 12 equines were severely emaciated and there was a lack of adequate feed on the property.

The 10 living horses were seized and transported to Harmony Equine for bonding purposes and care. Since that point, two of the living horses have been euthanized because they were not capable of recovering from such dramatic emaciation.

Officials were first led to Holloway’s property Slocum Road after receiving a neglect complaint.
