Pueblo police identify officers involved in fatal shooting, officer continues to recover

The Pueblo Police Department has released the names of the two officers involved in a fatal shooting that happened on April 9.

Officer Jonathan Bell and Officer Julee Burns responded to a suspicious person call near the Don Quixote Apartments on the 2000 block of S. Acero Ave., around 11:30 p.m. It was there that they tried to talk to a man when he ran from them.

Investigators tell us the suspect then fired at officers. Officer Bell was injured in the shooting, he was shot twice in the leg.

Officers returned fire and fatally injured the suspect, who was later identified as 28-year-old Michael Hensley. Hensley died at the scene.

As of Wednesday evening, Bell continues to be hospitalized. He has been moved from the intensive care unit, police say he is expected to be hospitalized for the foreseeable future.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave.
