Colorado Springs police officer involved in shooting placed on leave

Officers responded to an automobile theft-in-progress near Academy and Airport Rd. Monday.

Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were called to the 300 block of Longfellow Drive just after 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival to the scene, a foot chase ensued and ended with 24-year-old David McKnight being taken into custody.Further investigation revealed that a second possible male suspect was at large. A witness alerted authorities to a black SUV in the area that was possibly associated with the automobile theft.

Officers made contact with the potential suspect and according to authorities, the man’s behavior became evasive and erratic.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., a single shot was fired by a CSPD officer.

No one was injured in the shooting and the potential suspect has not been criminally charged in this incident.

The officer involved has been placed on routine paid administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.

This is an ongoing investigation.
