Fire destroys RV Saturday in Colorado Springs

Fire destroyed an RV parked in a Colorado Springs mobile home park Saturday.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at Holiday Village on Sinton Road, near the intersection of Sinton and Fillmore Street in the central part of the city.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the RV. It’s unclear whether the vehicle was occupied at the time, and the owner apparenty was unavailable.

The RV’s location in the rear of the park and the narrow streets there made fighting the fire more challenging.

Battalion Chief Jason Peit said the fire caused some damage to an adjacent mobile home.

“RVs usually go up (in flames) pretty fast,” he said. “There’s usually not a lot inside the vehicle to stop fire from spreading.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Peit advises RV owners to avoid storing flammable materials inside, to park the vehicle in a safe place and to make sure that any propane tanks in the RV are shut off.
