Hundreds gather in Colorado Springs for Lineworkers Rodeo
Hundreds of people gathered from around the country at Rockledge Ranch in Colorado Springs for the American Public Power Association Lineworkers Rodeo.
It’s a national event where 78 teams and 125 lineworker apprentices are competing in events throughout the day.
“We get that a lot, there’s no cows, there’s no horses. This is just a competition for our trade for safety for our trade, kind of bragging rights,” Tyler Dimeza, a line crew supervisor, said.
All the events have to do with safety and technical job scenarios lineworkers face on the job, with the prize being bragging rights.
“I mean this is what we do, and we get to show it off to people who don’t really know what a lineman does,” Dimeza said.
The 115 power poles installed at the ranch were installed specifically for the competition.
When it’s all over, many of those poles will become part of the Colorado Springs Utilities inventory.
