Colorado man sentenced for abuse death of infant daughter

A Colorado man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for causing the death of his infant daughter.

The Greeley Tribune reports that 33-year-old Edward Berdan was sentenced to 22 years Monday resulting from his conviction in January on one count of felony child abuse knowingly or recklessly causing death.

The newspaper reports Berdan was convicted on the third anniversary of the death of his 3-month-old child.

Authorities say Berdan’s wife brought the girl to a hospital in January 2016 after she began exhibiting seizure-like symptoms.

Court records say medical personnel determined the girl suffered several broken ribs and two brain bleeds that occurred at different times.

Police say Berdan described separate accidents at home that caused the injuries, but medical evidence did not support his claims.
