Police identify woman killed in crash on N. Academy

Colorado Springs police identified the woman who was killed after the sedan she was riding in crashed into a utility truck pulling a trailer.

The crash happened at about 5:15 p.m. Friday at N. Academy Blvd. and E. Platte Ave. Police say the privately owned truck turned left from the southbound lane of Academy onto Platte, but it was hit by a sedan.

Police say 27-year-old Alyssa Mason of Denver died at the hospital shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday. The driver was also seriously injured and was taken to the hospital.

Academy Blvd. was closed on the bridge over Platte Ave. for several hours following the crash. Academy reopened just after 7 a.m.

No word yet on whether drugs, alcohol or speeding, are considered to be factors in this crash. Police are still investigating and say no arrests have been made.
