Two overnight shooting investigations in Pueblo underway

Police in Pueblo were busy Saturday and Sunday morning with two shootings just blocks apart on the northwest side. The first taking place near W 13th St. and Cheyenne Ave, which led to a kidnapping according to investigators.

It all started out as dinner for Christopher Martinez and his family Saturday night, but it quickly became a nightmare.

At 9:24 p.m. Saturday night, police responded to a shots fired call at Martinez’s home.
Martinez invited his cousin and her husband, Nathan Gomez, for dinner. However, an argument between the couple quickly turned violent. Martinez says he tried to difuse the situation, but that only made things worse.

“He said he was going to get his wife out of my house and no one was going to stop him. He said if I got in his way he’d kill me and my whole family,” said Martinez. “Then all of the sudden he pulled out a gun and started shooting.”

Martinez says he was wounded while wrestling with the Gomez on the ground. He believes the gun went off and a bullet grazed him above his eye. Martinez was taken to the hospital, but was soon released with minor injuries.

“We were up all night praying and being thankful I’m still here and I’m able to be with my family,” said Martinez.

Police say they have a person of interest at this time, but wouldn’t confirm whether or not that is Gomez.
Investigators say the suspect drove off with a woman against her will, but she was found safe at a Colorado Springs hospital Sunday afternoon. The potential suspect is still at large.

Early Sunday morning just five minutes away at W 22nd and Cheyenne Ave, police were called to another shooting at a house party.

“Some kind of dispute started that divided folks up into two groups,” said Pueblo Police Captain Tom Rummel at the scene. “Some fighting began, and shots were fired, but we don’t know by how many different people.”

An 18- year old woman was taken to parkview medical with two gunshot wounds. Police say she is in stable condition with non-lifethreatening injuries.

Police say they have interviewed around ten of the partygoers so far. However, there are no leads or persons of interest at this time.
