Victims of Monument-area contractor continue to come forward
Over the past few months, we’ve heard from so many of you who’ve been scammed by Daniel Nail, the Monument-area contractor accused of defrauding dozens across Southern Colorado.
That victim list continues to grow. But this time it’s with victims who got the job completed and are now running into trouble.
“It all looked fine to me,” said Lynn Nielson, staring at her roof that just failed inspection. “I did not expect this.”
Lynn called Daniel Nail of Nailed It Roofing after the company was recommended to her by her insurance company, State Farm.
She got promises of “fast, friendly service” but what she really got was overcharged.
“I was originally told it would be $8,400 and he was billing me for $11,000,” said Nielson.
That’s $2,600 more, with no explanation why. Plus he threatened her if she decided not to pay the new rate.
“He threatened to put a lien on my house, so I felt I had to pay it,” said Nielson.
Neilson came to find out he failed to do the work correctly. According to the report, he failed to take off the proper materials before starting the job.
It’s Nail’s mistake — but the price falls back on Nielson.
“Probably at least $10,000 [to get it replaced], maybe $12,000,” Nielson said.
That number is added to the tens of thousands of dollars he’s accused of stealing from all of these other victims.
So what can be done? According to Greg Dingrando with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, Nail’s license is officially revoked.
“So now he is in that 30-day window to file an appeal,” said Dingrando.
Although that’s not likely for that to happen, given Nail will be sitting in a jail cell in El Paso County for the next several years. As long as his license remains revoked, he will no longer be allowed to work legally in the Pikes Peak Region.
