Pueblo Police Department investigates officer after reports of theft

A Pueblo police officer is being investigated after reports of stealing.

Sergeant James Olonia resigned from the department on Saturday, after 17 years on the force. Olonia was a police academy instructor and even appeared for interviews on training exercises.

On March 7 Olonia was placed on adminstrative leave after his fellow officers reported theft of department property.

Sgt. Frank Ortega told KRDO, while the news was disappointing, the actions of the reporting officers is something to be proud of.

Following the investigation, the department’s findings will be forwarded to the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether to file charges.
