Police identify suspect, victim in Winewood Village shooting

Police identified the suspect accused of killing a man Tuesday evening in northeast Colorado Springs.

According to Colorado Springs police, 46-year-old Andrew Firkins, Jr. was booked into jail on a charge of first-degree murder on Wednesday.

Firkins is accused of fatally shooting 37-year-old Nicholas Laduke in the 4600 block of Winewood Village Drive. A mugshot of Firkins hasn’t been released yet.

Police haven’t released any other details, including whether the two men knew each other beforehand.

One person was detained after a deadly shooting in the 4600 block of Winewood Village Drive in northeast Colorado Springs.

It happened Tuesday evening at the Winewood Village apartment complex near Austin Bluffs and Barnes.

A CSPD spokesman said officers arrived at the complex around 8:30pm to find a man with at least one gunshot wound.

Firefighters confirmed that the man was dead.

His name has not been released.

Within a few minutes, other officers arrived and detained a man nearby who is described as a “person of interest”.

It’s unclear if the two men knew each other, or if this was a random shooting.

The CSPD spokesman said they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

If confirmed as a homicide by the El Paso County coroner, this would be the third homicide of 2019.
