Colorado State Trooper fatally struck by sliding vehicle
A Colorado State Patrol trooper is dead after a vehicle slid off of Interstate 76 and hit him Wednesday morning as blizzard conditions tore through the state.
CSP says Cpl. Dan Groves, 52, was on the scene of another accident when a Volvo lost control and hit Groves outside of his patrol vehicle. It happened near mile marker 47 in Weld County.
Groves was taken to the hospital but died shortly after he arrived.
The Volvo was being driven by 58-year-old John Carpenter of Centennial. He was also injured and taken to the hospital.
Groves has been with CSP since 2007 and is survived by his partner of two years.
No criminal charges have been announced at this time.
